Author Kai Strand Presents THE WEAVER

Thursday, February 10, at 6:00 p.m.:

A great event for young readers!

In a town of storytellers, Mary suffers through her third year of Novice Word Weaving. Mary thinks her troubles are over when she meets a gnome-elf who grants her a wish. But instead of weaving a better story, she's weaving strange yarn charms to accompany her still pathetic tales.

Kai Strand's THE WEAVER is a middle grade novel that offers a little fantasy and a lot of storytelling.

Camalli Book Club Discussion Dec. 2

Join us at 6:30 on December 2 for an open discussion about The Saga of Gösta Berling. The Camalli Book Clubs are open to all and provide a great opportunity to meet new book lovers and to discuss the craft of writing and storytelling. This general book club meets the first Thursday of every month. This book is available at the store for 15% until December 2.

The Saga of Gösta Berling was Nobel laureate Selma Lagerlöf's first novel, published in 1891. The novel is a notable and still much read example of the 1890s wave of Swedish Neo-romanticism. Using wolves, snow, supernatural elements and eccentric upper-class characters to project an exotic image of 1820s Värmland, the novel can be compared to magic realism. The novel is set in Värmland, Sweden---the author's birthplace---between 1820 and 1830. The first sentence, "Finally, the vicar was in the pulpit," is one of the more famous in Swedish literature.
