In 1887, more than thirty Chinese gold miners were massacred on the Oregon side of Hells Canyon, the deepest canyon in North America. Massacred for Gold, the first authoritative account of the unsolved crime—one of the worst of the many crimes committed by whites against Chinese laborers in the American West—unearths the evidence that points to an improbable gang of rustlers and schoolboys, one only fifteen, as the killers.

An Evening with Greg Mortenson
Hey there, book geeks ...
Tomorrow is a big day here at Camalli Book Company, and in Bend in general. Tickets for An Evening with Greg Mortenson go on sale and the interest is insane; I can't think of anyone, or any group, who's come to Bend in the last year or two and generated such interest. If you have friends or family planning to go, please share this with them as well.
1. Tickets go on sale at Camalli at 10:00 a.m., and not a minute sooner.
People will be lined up. Bring a book, maybe a chair. We will be serving (free!) Bellatazza coffee starting at 9:00 a.m. But in fairness to all, we cannot open until 10:00.
2. Tickets go on sale at the COCC Box Office at 7:30 a.m.!
Did you get that? 7:30 a.m. So, we would recommend either going to the box office or calling the box office (541-383-7575) first if you can. Tickets there and here are only available on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you can get them before 10:00 we certainly would not discourage you from doing so.
3. Payment ... checks and cash if you can.
All money from the ticket sales goes to Mortenson's Central Asia Institute. When you use a credit card we have to pay a fee based on that sale. Checks and cash would be greatly appreciated.
4. You can buy for your group.
Just be kind about it, and honest. If you're buying 10 tickets for you and your fellow teachers, that's great. If you're trying to buy 10 to sell later, we'll know and much bad karma will rain down upon you ... really, we'll haunt your dreams.
5. Prices.
$20 for general seating, $30 for premium seating, and $150 for a reception with Greg Mortenson at Jackson's Corner before the presentation. And remember ... we really, really, really would encourage you to pay with cash or check.
6. No do-overs.
Tickets are non-refundable. If you buy one and later on figure you can't go, then be a gem and donate your ticket to a local school kid who would love to go to this event.
So, I think that about covers it. Questions? Do call, we'd love to hear from you: 541-323-6134
Thanks,
Tina

Join us on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, for an evening with c.vance and Jonathan Ludwig, both of Bend, and Jonathan Treadway of Kentucky ... as Ludwig says, "three men who wish they were the love children of Charles Bukowski, Richard Brautigan, and Leonard Cohen." Come out and listen in ...
Based in Bend, Oregon, Throwback Books is a burgeoning small press company dedicated to publishing innovative writers in a retroactive style. Somewhere between mimeographs and cut-and-paste punk posters are their 32-page, typewriter written, perfect bound chapbooks.

Refreshments will be provided.
